What Do You Think About Dog Diapers?

I’m getting a puppy, 8 weeks. My parents expect no accidents. (I know you’re gonna say that puppies are a big responsibility and nag on me yadyyaddy ya i know) I’m planning to housetrain it, while I’m training it, would it be okay to use a diaper while it’s in the house and take it off outside? Or just housetrain it with accident possibility? Cuz my sister was planning on diapering it in the house but I think that’ll interfere with the housetraining process and confuse the dog? Any suggestions?

    In my opinion, yes diapers are fine for house training. You can buy reusable diapers at Pet Smart for about $10. The only reason you would use diapers is so the carpet does not get ruined, you will still have to constantly keep an eye on the dog & take him/her out regularly.
    Edit: Lmao, y’all are ridiculous. Wow! =)

    You just have to be sure you get gender specific ones and still monitor your pup constantly to take him/her out when needed.

    I think that is terrible to do to an animal but if you really have no alternative to it then I guess do it. If you are going to be away for a short time I would say put her in the bathroom with the door shut or outside. That way it would be easy to clean up and the dog can keep some of its dignity.

    It’s better to train it with accident possibility, that way you can scald for bad behaviour and use positive reinforcement for good. Don’t rely on a dog diaper, they do work but in the future it will be a lot easier having used the training. You are right it will confuse the dog, so I recommend sticking to the housetraining process.

    You could try it, but it’s likely that you’re still going to be cleaning up poop from the floor. The difference will be that the poop will contain bits of plastic and cotton, and you may end up with a sick puppy who has diaper material stuck in it’s intestines.

    i dont think you should use the diapers… when i got my dog, we kept her on a leash for 2 weeks we sat on the floor with her and whenever she sniffed we took her right outside.. she was getting the hang of it by the 2nd day… and was trainned the 1st week.. i we had a couple of accidents, but the puppy will feel bad if you scold it and wont do it again… but definately dont use a diaper… io think it will confuse the little guy… good luck with your pup!!! =)

    All puppies have accidents. That is just how it is. Tell your parents to face reality. I think diapers will only confuse the puppy. Get a copy of Patricia McConnell’s book “Way to Go” and “Puppy Primer” too and use themhttp://www.patriciamcconnell.com/categor…

    Yes, I think that is a good idea. If you have a back yard I would take off the diaper and put one of those potty pads(you can get it from any pet store, I think i even saw it in Costco)out side and let your puppy smell it and get used to going potty on it. Then, you should slowly move it closer inside(like an inch every other day).

    Diapering it is stupid. its a DOG not a child. Ask your sister if she’s going to be in the mood for wiping this pup’s butt multiple times a day.
    There is always a possibility of accidents and ZERO guarantee the pull will keep it on. So rather than waste time and money stick to tried and true methods of house breaking. Your parents expectations are ridiculous and unacceptable. If they can’t deal with the fact there will be accidents while training they shouldn’t have pets.
    Ask them if they felt the same way when they were potty training you. Same thing.

    A diaper won’t teach the dog anything. Most likely you will have a few accidents. If you use one it will probably take much longer to train him.

    In my opinion, i wouldn’t put a diaper on a dog, i did that with my dog when she was in heat. It costs lots of money to constantly keep a diaper on a dog, and trust me, they HATE it. My dog always kicked around and did anything she could to get that thing off. Also think about the future, the dog will be so used to diapers he won’t know what to do when he gets older and you start taking him off diapers. I would suggest pupy pads that lay on the floor, and don’t worry about traing him to use it cuz they have scents built in the pad so your dog will use it to “mark it’s spot” like they do outside. This really helps for when your dog is inside.

    Honestly I would crate train her. While your not around her in the house put her in the crate and let her out often of course. BUT when you take her out of the crate make sure to take her outside and wait until she uses the bathroom. After she does be sure to praise her and give her a treat to let her know shes doing a great job. About the diaper thing, well my dog is in heat right now and she has to wear diapers to keep from making a mess in the house. The only bad thing is that it leaves a rash and irratates her skin around her stomach and sides. I even went up a size in diapers for her and it still does it.

    Don’t put diapers on the puppy, if you truly expect to housebreakher. BTW, have you ever cleaned poop out of a diaper…it will be really disgusting and stuck to the dogs fur. Really bad idea.
    There is no possible way an 8, 14, 16, week old puppy can possibly hold it. Their bladders are not yet developed.
    So, do a google search for “housbreaking puppies”, get a crate, take her out frequently and make sure you clean up any mess she makes, because in the end, if the dog has an accident in the house, it will be your fault for not getting it out in time.
