  “but I don’t want to adopt because i want to finally have a dog to myself, that i name&raise” Ummm.. what?? Shelters are full of puppies this time of year!
  Huskies need tons of daily exercise(at least 2-3 hours) and I would never own a Husky with a cat.
  Do you have a job to pay for this dog? What will happen with it when you go to collage or move out?

  It sounds like you have done a lot of research which amazes me. It very nice to finally find some one who does research on a dog breed. Siberian husky are a very difficult breed to deal with. They are one of the few breeds that are still bred to do what they were made to do. They run! Huskys are unbelievably hyper and hi strung. Also living in louisiana myself i understand the heat! Even taking him or her for a walk could really hurt them. I have wanted a husky myself but living in such a small house in such a hot state I have decided against it. Huskys are artic dogs which means they are adapted to extreme cold. bring a husky to Louisiana is kind of selfish. I don’t mean to be mean at all. but there are a lot of other breeds who will love you just as much and are a little easier for a family who can’t be with then 100% of the time and can handle the heat a lot better. Keep doing your research though! way to go on that. but don’t let your wants to possibly harm a dog you intended to love.

  For your first question, yes they can be inside dogs. However, a mere hour of exercise will most likely not be enough for this breed – my border collie gets a 2 mile run in the mornings and another in the evenings along with agility and she’s still always ready to go! Huskies are active dogs. Also, it may be uncomfortable in hot weather. They are a working breed, bred to trek for miles and miles, working 20 hour days.
  They’re not stubborn. They need a gentle but firm hand in training. You need patience and consistency.
  They can be fine with cats, but you need to make it clear that chasing is unacceptable. That age should be fine, but make sure you socialize it – take it everywhere! Expose it to everything! You want the pup growing up confident and at ease with its place in the world.
  A dog alone for 7 hours a day is going to be lonely. Either get another dog for company, which doesn’t sound like it would fit your situation, or find a doggy daycare type place. If you have no other option but to leave it alone, I recommend both indoor and outdoor access with stuffed kongs and such.
  Not all dogs like water, even Huskies. Many Huskies are desperately unhappy in hot climates. But if she likes it and you have air conditioning, give it a shot.
  It doesn’t sound selfish at all. You understandably want a puppy to shape into your lifestyle. However, are you 100% sure Huskies are the breed for you? If I may – Labrador Retrievers, and many shelter mix puppies, have short hair and need less exercise. Huskies need a job to do! If you are positive about this, I recommend getting started in agility and or obedience. Best of luck!

  “ashley says to to breeding mutts” said it perfectly. What the hell makes you think if you ADOPT a dog it cannot be yours? Do you realize how many sweet dogs are in shelters getting killed every day? Please adopt, you will be saving a life and getting a great dog/puppy.
  I too, would NEVER own a siberian husky. These are beautiful dogs, but they are EXTREMELY energetic, I mean, they will not stop, ever. My newlywed friends who were dumb enough to buy a husky and they are paying for it. I can’t even bring my dog around her anymore because she never stops tackling and playing with my dog who loves other dogs, but cannot take the 5+ hours the husky spends annoying her. The dog does nothing but bark, run, chew things up in the house, and SHED. They shed tons, so /I hope you don’t mind having your floor and couches covered with hair on a daily basis and plan to vacuum.
  Do you have a fenced in yard with AT LEAST a 6 feet high fence? Huskies love to run and wander and will do anything to get out of the yard and run away….and can jump anything lower than 6 feet high (hell I’ve heard of some escaping higher fences).
  What about college? ever think of that? Even if you’re a freshmen, you’ll only be in HS for 4 years, and huskies can live 15 years+…..so put that into consideration as well.

  Who is going to take care of the dog while you are away at college?
  Anyway, I have two huskies. So I can tell you, yes, they are extremely stubborn, they are extremely manipulative, they can and will learn how to play you like a puppet. They often have sensitive intestines, therefore grocery store food is a no-no. Besides that, even if they can tolerate it without throwing it up or getting constant diaherra, it’s extremely unhealthy for your dog. Learn what dog food SHOULD contain. I feed my dogs Canidae. $30 bucks for a really big heavy bag. It’s very worth it, not only because it’s very healthy, but because huskies are extremely light eaters. These bags last me a few months. Don’t be surprised if your dog skips a meal. Mine only eat once a day, if that. They will also, always, try to eat the cat food, so you gotta watch out for that. I think most dogs can learn to tolerate cats, mine did. Huskies will not exercise if you tie them to a lead in the backyard, and if they get bored or overheated, they will dig holes in your yard and lay in them. Fences are highly recommended, with supervision, because they can even learn how to escape out of privacy fences. Either by jumping, climbing, or digging. I used a training collar though, so my dogs know to stay in the yard, and I can let them out the front yard to go to the bathroom, and I don’t even need to use the training collar anymore, but I’m pretty sure I’m one of the really rare husky owners who can do that. If you have air conditioning, that’s fine, don’t leave your dogs outside too long. And do not shave your husky’s coat like a lot of idiots do. Their coats are meant to protect them from heat and cold. If you shave them, they could get sunburned, and it will destroy their coat for years to come and it will not grow back in right. They won’t even look like a husky anymore. They shed an extreme amount, so buy yourself a shedding blade and whatever else and be prepared to carpet a mansion. Just when you think they can’t shed anymore, they will. They also have no qualms sh*tting or pissing in the house when no one is there to let them out. Did I mention they are always trying to eat the cat’s food?!
  So the biggest thing I stress to you, when it comes to a husky, is EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE. A normal walk around the block won’t cut it. Huskies do not want to walk, AT ALL. they want to RUN!! So learn how to ride a bike with your dog, or skate like cesar milan, or start liking the idea of jogging, which is good for you anyway, and maybe if you have hiking trails or hills, you should actively walk up steep hills and jog in the woods. Concrete damages the dog’s paws.
  if you are not willing to be highly active for years and years to come, do yourself and the dog a favor by not getting one, i am serious. if they are under exercised, they will become extremely dysfunctional and hyperactive. these dogs are bred to RUN! on as little food as possible. that is what they are. dashers. runners. sprinters. not walkers. And if YOU think that you are going to walk your dog around the block, prepare to be wrong, because your dog WILL JOG YOU. I find letting them pull me up steep hills in the woods to be the best exercise to wear them out.
  remember….frequent exercise. they especially get bursts of energy in the early morning.
  huskies typically destroy things if they are bored, like if they don’t get enough exercise. Do you think your parents would go jogging while you are at college? Definitely not. But if you will be able, then good luck! They are such a joy to have if your lifestyle can fit them.
  We adopted our second husky from the shelter. Shelters are very good places to adopt dogs at. Although we lied and said we had no cats, even though we knew the previous owner and Sugar was raised around cats and was fine with them, the pot-smoking shelter said she would kill cats. Wrong. She snuggles with them! It is kind of selfish of you to say that but I kinda know what you are saying. Huskies especially get stuck in shelters because dopehead “behaviorists” think they they will attack and kill everything. Huskies are always excited to meet new people, dogs and cats. And its a highly stressful environment, so they don’t even know what the dog is really like. It’s a really sad thing.

  YES , they can be inside dogs, with the proper love and attention, ANY dog can, as long as there is plentiful food and water inside, there shouldn’t be any probs with leaving for 8-10 hrs. Husky’s are relatively large dogs, but as any pet, they can adapt to alot.
