It This A Stupid Idea? Working For Vet Care?

I am 17 years old. I own two dogs, a seven year old Lhasa Apso (adopted from an owner at the age of 5 because of aggression issues) and an approximately 6 year old Pomeranian ( puppy mill rescue-was severely abused). I also own a cat whom I found outside around a year ago. The cat is my biggest concern because he is very thin and has a strange growth over his eye. He has been this way for over a year. I have tried to adopt him out with no success and I will not take him to a shelter where he will most likely be put to sleep.I do my very best to take care of these animals. My family is struggling financially, and while my mother pays for things such as flea medication, food, etc, she is absolutely not willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a cat who she did not want in the first place. I do not currently work, and have no way of paying for his healthcare. I had an idea but I want to know if it is probable. Do you think that a veterinarian would let me work for him free of charge in return for providing health care for the poor cat?
Please don’t send me mean comments saying that I am irresponsible for owning these animals. I love them to death and I do everything I can to provide them with happy lives. I sincerely believe that they are better off here than they would be where they came from.
Thank you and have a good day
