Is This Cruel For Puppy To Be Indoors 24/7?

My friend just got a chow chow puppy about 5 months old. She works long hours and she puts the puppy in a cage with the wee wee pad. She lives with another person who doesn’t work that long hours but that person will not take responsibility of taking care of the puppy. I visited her on the weekends and I saw this puppy jumping up and down, like he wants to come out. So I asked my friend can she please let the puppy out for a walk. She said not yet because she is still housebreaking the puppy.
And she said the puppy is going to be an indoor puppy? I don’t understand why she is doing this? I think it is so cruel to do that to the puppy.

    I agree with you. You could call the SPCA and tell them and ask them what they think. If they come take the puppy, play dumb so that your friend doesn’t know you are the reason her puppy got taken away. It is cruel. They need exersize and love and that puppy is obviously not getting that.

    puppies have a lot of energy. It needs to have some fun time by going outside. How can someone deprive a dog of their happiness?

    tell her how is keeping a dog inside a gonna house break her. and dogs arent really meant to be indoor dogs its stupid to keep an indoor dog. if she keeps this up you can call animal control to take her for animal cruelty, and it can be anomous and then you can go adopt the dog and then if you cant keep the dog you can giver her to a good home

    It is and its not good to have a wee pad in the cage. Dogs don’t go to the bathroom where they sleep. The person in the house needs to take this dog out when the puppy needs to go out. If this person can’t do that then they are extremely lazy and is heartless. You need to tell your friend that potty training means taking the dog out for walks! This dog will become aggressive if she keeps the puppy locked up all the time. Also training is important and this dog seems to not be getting any. I dont know what your friend was thinking getting a dog when she can’t care for it and provide the proper care and training.
    If she doesn’t comply with the proper care anonymously call a shelter and tell them of this abuse. This dog doesn’t need to live like this.

    i dont recommened putting the puppy in the cage when she is gone just in case there is a fire that puppy has NO way of getting out
    if she has a room that doesnt have any carpet tell her that she should put up like a baby gate even if she has to put up 2 baby gates one on top of the other so the puppy cant jump out and put some of the pads down
    and if she doesnt take the puppy outside (which i dont like) tell ur friend that she has to play with it any chance she gets to take out its energy

    it is, but look at it from her point of view. working long hours with no1 to take care of the dog? im sure shw doesnt want the poor thing to be locked up all the time. there is no ecxuse for not walking him, tho. puppies need to get exercise, and walking them will only improve their house training progress. tell ur friend to walk her dog. make sure she rewards it with a treat if he goes outside. you could also put a doghouse outside and leave the dog outside to run around in the yard…as long as its warm. dont leave it outside ofr days stright, but at least try to get it outside more often……………………………..… its ok for a dog to be an inside dog, just make sure it gets exercise

    Yes, in my opinion it’s cruel to keep any dog inside all the time, especially a large breed puppy like a Chow! It’s also awful that she leaves this poor dog in a crate all day with only a puppy pad. This will really hinder the house training process as well as affect the dogs personality in major ways. Being locked in a tiny cage and having very little time to blow off energy will make for a very hyper and very stressed out puppy. Not to mention possibly affect it’s social skills. Chow Chows in some cases have been known to become aggressive if not cared for and trained properly. If your friend cares about this dog at all, she should do whats best for him and find him a new home with someone who will properly care for him!
    Also, I might add, how do you house train a dog without taking it outside???? That is the only way to do it! If this dog is never allowed outside it will NEVER be housebroken, unless she plans to have this large breed dog using puppy pads in the house, which would be disgusting.
    I say call animal services.

    That is cruel. There is no such thing as an indoor puppy. Why does she want a pet if she neglects it and leaves it in the crate all the time? Maybe she wanted a cat and got confused?
    5 months it should be potty trained. People use the expression “go for a walk” as a euphemism for dog going outside to go potty. that makes no sense to refuse to go for walk with a puppy b/c they are not potty trained, how is the dog supposed to learn?
    A chow is not an indoor type dog breed. maybe a teacup poodle or chihuahua. You can report this to the humane society or animal cruelty.
    A dog should not be crated for more than 6 hours at a time. I work long hours, I am usually out of the house about 10 hrs a day. Before I go to work I walk my dog 1 mile. After work I walk my dog 1 mile. Which a mile is not much it takes 15-20 min. Then I pay a dog walker $40 to come and walk/throw the ball/potty break for about 30 min for my dog every day. And I feel gulty that my dog doesn’t get enough exercise/attention.
    You have to tell her that you think she is being cruel. She is being selfish, self-absorbed, neglectful and callous as well. Or you could not say anyting and call animal abuse/animal control, local humane society then she wouldnt’ suspect you. Are dogs allowed on her lease? If not, you could anonymously tip off her landlord that she is harboring a dog.
    If she doesn’t change, you might have to tell her that it is too painful for you to come see her b/c the way she is treating her dog. I would not be able to visit there. I am getting tearful thinking about it.

    According to my opinion, that puppy needs to go out sometimes.
    It’s not good if it is always stays inside its cage.
    A puppy needs to be put outside the cage, so that it can know the surroundings and learn how to behave properly.
    I experienced it once, with my pomeranian. I always kept him inside his cage and really seldom to take him out for play.
    Then, once I released him, he couldn’t behave properly, like being hyperactive~

    i think its bad to keep ur dog inside all the time. U should at least let it out a couple times a day for a bathroom break (instead of a wee pad where it sleeps.) And u can let it out just to have fun and play around in ur yard. U can also let it out for walks for like 15 minutes or so and it might go to the bathroom then :D

    What is you friend doing!? Puppy need love and attention, not a crates and puppy diapers. The dog is a crucial stage of development where it must be socialized with other dogs. If the dog is not socialized it will not become an “indoors dog,” but a menace. Dogs need socialization and interaction with other dogs. If not they will develop nastier, much more violent behaviors that I promise you are ALOT worse than peeing on the furniture. Especially Chow Chows. Not trained properly they will become defensive, aggressive dogs that will bite anything of anyone who threatens them or there owner. It only takes one bite to kill a toddler, and one bite to get the dog put down. Plus, she is not even housebreaking him. All your friend is doing is mistreating a poor animal. A cage is not a prison or a jail for a dog, it is a den and a place of security. The dog is being punished in the crate, that is foul and repulsive. She must clearly want to get the ASPCA on her back because that can be considered animal cruelty. The dog should have at LEAST 20 minutes of exercise, and the ability to pee outside. Tell your friend to take care of the dog of to give him up. No dog should be allowed to put up with that cruel behavior. Tell her to give the dog some attention of give him away. And after she has read a few dog manuals and care books to conceder getting another dog.
