I Dont Know What To Do, A Friend And I Went Half And Half On A Dog And I Dont Want It Anymore…?

I have gone half and half on a dog with a friend. The agreement was that the dog would be kept at my house. We would both be taking care of it and such, one buy food then the next time he would buy the dog food. Since we’ve had the dog (its been about 3 months) he has only bought one bag of dog food, a bed, a gate, food and water dishes, 2 packs of puppy pads, and 3 toys. I have trained the dog to sit, stay, and walk on a leash. I have cleaned up after him every time he’s made a mess. I have lost over 100 dollars in personal property (dog chewing them up and such), the dogs has chewed 3 holes in a room and ripped up the lenolium in another. (all flat surfaces not sure how he did it im actually surprised) and i spend the most time with him. The only time his dad spends time with him is to show him off to people. He doesnt offer to do anything. Now im tired of having to repair things and buy new stuff and i want to get rid of the dog. He’s not allowed to take the dog home but he doesnt want the dog to go.. the only place he can keep the dog is my house. But i dont want the dog anymore. I told him either he gives me 300 dollars for the dog or im selling him. (Its a 5 month old Pit Bull Puppy) The dad took him out of my house and will not bring him back. I told him bring him back or give me the money. He’s not doing either. What can i do?

    First and foremost if you have to rehome the puppy- be fair to it. Dogs aren’t like property you can just get rid of when you don’t want them. If your friend can’t keep at his house, then he can’t really object to you selling it. Give him back the money he paid for the dog- bite the money lost in damages. Find the dog a good home and be picky about who you give it to.

    Dogs are not about the money. They are about companionship. The “dad” was right to take the dog from you. You should not have a pet.

    If your friend’s dad has taken him and won’t give him back then the problem is solved, correct? You wanted the dog gone, so now the dog is gone. However if they took him just to dump him in the pound then by all means get him back and find him a good forever home.
    Puppies are not easy. They are expensive and time consuming. I would research more into puppy training, obedience classes and potty training the next time you try and get a dog.
    Pit bull pups need lots of energy. His destructive behavior will stop if you take him for walks, to the local dog park, go out in the backyard and play some fetch. I would also keep him in a kennel when he is unsupervised.
    I would just eat the money and learn from the experience. You can’t file any charges. Just make sure to not go halfsies again and if you do make sure everything is in writing and signed.

    Chalk it up to a learning experience, and drop the whole thing, your so called friend included. You didn’t want the dog anymore, so I suggest you quit dog ownership also. After having the dog for so many months you did not form any attachment to it and were looking to “get rid of it” . Don’t get another dog.

    You are a petty, cheap person. At least the “dad” cares about the poor dog, unlike lazy you. God, please NEVER get another pet again. You will just get tired of it and try to dump it too.

    Pit Bulls are one of the most difficult breeds to rehome. So, you are fortunate it is going to a place it will be loved.
    Owning any dog takes more money and time than expected. It is a living thing, a pit bull breed needs an experianced owner. You do not seem to be the correct owner for this dog. Since most pits end up euthenized, you have done the humane thing if you will let it go and count it as a lesson learned.

    Welcome to being a parent. Seriously. Kids and puppies have SOOO much in common it’s not even funny. They’re not such fun bundles of joy when there’s poop involved huh? But that’s what comes with the territory. Surely you knew this when you went and got the puppy? Or did you think the dog was going to train itself and stay quiet in a corner until you were ready to play with it? The dog sounds bored and I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that it realizes that you don’t like or want him. And there’s nothing wrong with admitting you bit off more than you could chew. But don’t expect to get sympathy when all you seem to be able to do is spout off dollar amounts.
    If you paid for the dog, I can understand you wanting your half of the original cost IF the “friend” sells the dog for the same amount, or ends up keeping it. If he gives the dog up (for adoption, to shelter, or to another family) then I say he doesn’t owe you anything. There are costs involved with having a pet, and you will never be recompensated for them…it just comes with the territory. So I say cut your losses and be glad you don’t have to clean up after it anymore.
    Oh, and I am not sure how old you are…but please don’t bother having children until you grow up.

    Have you considered small claims court?
    Personally, I’d just be happy the dog was gone. Pitt bulls are awful in so many ways–you’re lucky to be rid of the thing. But if you really want to sue for damages, you’ll have to let a judge sort this nonsense out. He’s going to say that he paid for everything and that you weren’t providing the dog with a good home.
