How To Convince My Parents To Let Me Get A Puppy? Help!?

ok so i asked my parents because i want a puppy REALLY BAD , im 14, and they know i can take care of it (i had other pets before) but they think it costs wayyyy too much and they really hate animals (i dont know why) and they dont want it inside the house, so i told them we can make a dog house for him outside but they say its still really expensive for the vaccines, the food, and for some reason they think he has to go to the vet every 3 months or something
so can you please tell me the ABSOLUTE necessary for a puppy and stuff that is affordable and a way to convince them
btw i live in georgia so is there any place where i can get cute puppies for sale like less then $100?

    well theirs always the pennysaver u know and many people sell dogs or even give them away for a cheap price. you should tell them you will do better in school, and to pay for food and vaccine you will do extra chores, or even find a job. schools offer jobs as cafeteria lunchroom workers.

    adopt one at your local shelter, they’ll do the shots and everything before it goes home with you. its not that expensive. those dogs need homes too :) however i dont think you should keep the dog outside all the time.

    Dogs are expensive. Even if you get a mutt from a friend for free. He needs to be kept in food, grooming, vet visits, toys, snacks, bedding, crate etc. Maybe if you got some kind of part time job to help defray the costs it would help.

    Think of how sad the baby puppy will be if you put it outside after paying attention to it for several hours. It will cry and annoy your neighbors.
    Part of being grown-up is to put others ahead of yourself.
    What are you planning to do with the puppy when you go back to school and when it gets cold outside?
    I’d ask them what animal you can have, and accept their answer – even if it’s fish. By not whining and accepting their answer, you will show them you are responsible. Speaking of which, what happened to your other pets?
    ETA: So, in other words you are planning on giving it lots of attention during the day and put it outside at night. Keeping the pup outside at night is one of the worse things you can do. Do you really think he’s going to curl up and sleep???? Who is planning on watching it and teaching it not to dig holes or stop it from getting into things it shouldn’t? You do know it’s going to start crying and yelping – loudly, don’t you? Forget how angry your parents will be, and how tired you will be if they insist you go out and see if there’s anything wrong, what about your neighbors? The last thing I want is to be woken up at 3 am by a yelping crying puppy!
    Btw, how will you know when it needs to go poop?
    The initial cost is only a fraction of what it will cost you during the first few months.
    Besides, why do I think there’s a very good chance you’ll lose interest in it once school starts and your parents will end up taking it to the pound?
    Assuming you have the money for a crate, they are not supposed to be used as punishment, nor as a place to put the dog when you get tired of it.
    Edit: You convince your parents to let you get a puppy by accepting their answer and dropping the subject until Christmas. In the meantime you do all your chores and keep your grades up with no complaining.
    Understandably they do not think you are mature enough to make a life time commitment to a dog – it is your job to prove them wrong. Nagging will only reinforce their belief this in not the time for you to have a dog. If you are mature and grown-up enough to accept no, there’s a chance they might surprise you with one shortly before Christmas.
    In the meantime, why don’t you volunteer at a shelter and ask them for suggestions?
    Telling the same people you are asking for suggestions they are annoying is not cool.

    Your parents might just not be animal people. Tell them you’ll help pay for expenses and take care of it. If they still say no, you don’t have a good chance. Don’t fight them, show them you’re mature and can handle it (I know these things; I’m 14 too). It’s good for your dog to go to the vet often, but you can do it every 4 1/2 months at the least. To convince them you must go online and show them facts on Wikipedia. For cute puppies, go to your local shelter; it’s cheaper than a breeder and you’ll feel good about it. Hope I helped!

    Easy solution for you… And this is what i did to get my dog at your age:
    - get a little job like babysitting, etc… This way, you prove to your parents that you are serious about it and that you are ready to participate in the costs generated by your dog.
    - Get a small dog, this is just because they eat less lol :-)
    - Go on the net and find several quotations for dog insurance, some of them cover all the vet cost, including vaccinations.
    - get your puppy from a rescue center, it costs a lot less
    - Why don’t you put up some signs about dog walking, at least you can make money at the same time you walk your dog ;-)

    Offer to buy it yourself, and go to the humaine soceity and buy a cheap dog. Keep on trying to convince them!

    You should really get a dog at the animal shelter because yeah they need homes too:) and it’s usually ALOT cheeper and they get all the vaccines and stuff already, but if you don’t then to get the money do some extra chores maybe start a neighbor hood bussiness like picking up people dog poop for them for like 10 bucks per dog…. it also gives you practice! Or get a job or something, babysit, ect.
    Puppys NEED:
    puppy food (which will lead to real dog food once older
    toys! Alot of toys to keep them busy, for when they are teething ect.
    Puppy bed with a blanket is always good:)
    Treats for training
    A collar and leash for walking
    maybe a crate if you want to crate train which i recomendif you want him/her in the house. It teaches them to sleep in there and most of the time they will just lay in there during the day if you put it in a room where they can see people and not feel lonely. And also when she is misbehaving you can put her in there.
    I recomend you keep her inside for her puppy years so you can train her, she can get used to you, potty train ect.
    Also a really good idea if you don’t want to do the crate training is to get a puppy pen! when we got our puppy it was a life saver because she had blankets all her toys some water her bed and she LOVED it and it had a little gate where i could go in a play with her and we would take her outside regularly so she could go to the bathroom

    Also if you get a 8 week puppy he has to go the vet EVERY 4 weeks till 16 weeks of age to get shots then he gets final shots+rabies, but if you tell a humane society your putting a 8 week puppy outside I think they would be very weary about adopting to you sorry.Even if its only at night there gonna be weary about it because he’s so young and anything could get in your yard to be honest.
    So calculating the cost it would be about
    150~ adoption
    Around here a vet visit with shots is like 100+.It’s like 50 dollars at low cost clinics and stuff though
    20~ for good puppy dry food
    40~ for flea/tick control
    20~ for toys
    20-40 for a crate
    Leashes and other stuff you should calculate yourself, but it’s pretty basic.If i was you I would look at a dog 1 or 2 years old instead.

    There honestly can be a big financial responsibility to taking care of a dog, not only when you first buy one. Dogs need food, they need a license, they need shots, they need vet visits when something seems to go wrong that you can’t explain. If they get sick or injured vets can cost a lot of money. A dog doesn’t have to get a general check-up every 3 months but it is recommended to get an annual one. All these responsibilities are going to fall on your parents, not you, unless you get a job and put your money towards the dog. As you get older and spend more time with high school things and friends I’m sure they’re thinking that they are going to end up looking after the dog more than you are.
    Is it more important for you to have a puppy or for the puppy to have the chance at a good life? Having a puppy live outside is not considerable towards the pup. He’s still a baby and going from living with his family to living alone outside is rather harsh for him. That seems like a very selfish choice to do that just so you can satisfy yourself. Puppies need guidance and training. If he’s outside all alone then rain, snow or sunshine are you going to be out there with him to train him and teach him how to be a good dog? Remember that the puppy is only going to be that cute and small for several months, for the rest of his life he is a dog. What your parents do around the dog will also have an influence on him. If he isn’t trained well and does things that are annoying or naughty are you going to be frustrated and get bored of having to “do everything” or are you going to always want to work to train him to be better? What about when you’re going to school, have tons of homework and have parties or sports or friends to hang out with?
    When a family gets a dog then that dog becomes a member of that family, whether the other family members see it that way or not. It seems like unless you can get your parents to agree on taking part in the dog’s life and training you’re better off waiting until it is truly only your responsibility, when you have your own home.
    edit: I cannot understand how you think parents not wanting a dog inside means it will only sleep outside? When you claim parents say they don’t want a dog in the house that tends to mean that it won’t be in the house… at all. The fact that you say you’ll get a dog house to counter that issue only supports the thought that the dog will be living outside. Provide more details or look foolish. Jeez.

Your initial request just makes you seem like a child clamoring for a puppy and wanting to force it on your parents, not like a person of responsibility. Even with your modifications you are acting bratty. I’m telling you that cost is an ongoing factor during a dog’s life and a good upbringing for a dog involves the participation of your family members. Keeping the dog away from your parents isn’t the best solution, neither is buying the cheapest stuff. The way you write makes it seem like having a dog matters more to you than how the dog is going to feel about its situation.
    To convince your strict parents would take some maturity and understanding. Try to understand their side of things, try talking to them some more about it without pestering them. If cost and cleanliness isn’t the problem if you took care of those find out what else it is. Is it noise? Do they just not want to take care of it? Nobody here knows your parents and what will impress them. Perhaps you could point out that you’re lonely because you’re home all the time. Otherwise silently prove to them how responsible you are by doing things around the house. Do research about breeds and figure out what types might be most suitable for your family. That means not asking on yahoo and actually looking for yourself. Look online, get books, talk to owners or visit shelters. They could think that you’ll get over wanting a dog, so if you put so much dedication and effort into this they might respect how serious you are and give it more consideration.

    Keeping him outside at night is even worse, he will be PINING for you like crazy, and you won’t come to him – he may believe he’s been abandoned. Trust me, I know how frustrated you are, I’ve been wanting a dog for 15 years but couldn’t because I was at school and my parents and work and it wouldn’t be fair on the dog to leave it. Now there is finally a solution so it’s more likely then it has ever been for me getting a dog. All I’m saying is don’t give up (and don’t leave it outside;), I didn’t.

    When it comes to getting the puppy, I seriously recommend going to the shelter. You save an animal from being put to sleep, and can normally get it at about $60. The highest I’ve seen is 80. You’re not really going to be able to find a breeder for under $100, and if you do, then somethings really wrong. The puppy would already be fixed if you got it at the shelter, so that cost is eliminated. You can plan on spending at least $100 on the things it needs (food, collar/leash, toys, ect.), and then maybe another 100 on shots.
    If you get it from a shelter, the cost should include its spay/neuter and shots. You only have to take it to the vet once a year, unless something’s wrong.
